The title of the book (“optimizing”) is somewhat misleading. The book gives an overview of SD functionality and explains (usually very briefly) how to tackle the related settings. The level of detail is somewhat inconsistent: Sometimes very specific notes, sometimes just a very brief summary. Then again it would be impossible to cover all details on only 450+ pages.
Experts will not find anything new here. This book is handy for people not fully proficient in some SD areas, or who want to refresh their memory, or who need a good general overview of SD settings. The reader is expected to already have a good knowledge of SD. For detailed tricks and how-tos, you then still have to refer to the usual web resources (forums, SAP Marketplace etc.).
All in all, a solid reference book (if a bit on the short side), and an overall good writing effort, especially since comparable books are virtually non-existing.
